The Great Migration is one of nature's most spectacular events - over 1.5 million wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle moving across the Serengeti ecosystem.

When to See the Migration

The migration is a year-round circular journey. Here's the approximate timing:

January - March: Ndutu & Southern Serengeti

Wildebeest calving season. Best for predator action (cheetahs, lions, hyenas). Thousands of babies born daily.

April - May: Central Serengeti

The herds move west and north. Good for game viewing as they cross the Grumeti River.

June - July: Western Corridor

River crossings begin. Dramatic scenes as crocodiles await. Best for action photography.

August - October: Northern Serengeti & Maasai Mara

The herds cross into Kenya's Maasai Mara. Excellent predator action.

November - December: Return South

The migration starts returning south, completing the circle.
